'I will yell': Calls for justice ring at funeral for Chapel Hill victims

In North Carolina, heartbreak and sadness over the deaths of three young Muslim students have given way to a strong desire for justice.

“We are concerned that the rising anti-Muslim rhetoric in our society may have encouraged some to commit violence against Muslim Americans,” Azhar Aziz, president of the Islamic Society of North America, said a funeral service for the students on Thursday.

A 46-year-old man named Craig Hicks has been arrested for shooting Deah Bakarat, 23; his wife, Yusor Abu Salha, 21; and her sister Razan, 19. Police have acknowledged speculation that it was a hate crime but not have called it that.

Mohammad Yousif Abu-Salha, the father of Razan and Yusor were killed, used stronger terms.

“This has hate crime written all over it,” he said. If law enforcement doesn’t heed calls to investigate this is as such, he said, “I will yell. And everybody else will.”
