Only in Shondaland could a character like How To Get Away With Murder’s Michaela Pratt exist – she’s planning a wedding, cramming for exams, all while, ya know, hiding bodies with her classmates.
Pratt is played by actress Aja Naomi King who says taking the gig was a no-brainer. “If Shonda Rhimes or anyone that even remotely knows Shonda Rhimes approaches you and says that you can be a part of her projects, you don’t think twice, you say yes….even if you end up being like a janitor for the bathrooms!”
King gave major kudos to her co-star Viola Davis and that epic SAG Award speech on diversity in Hollywood. “Like Viola said, we all want to be a part of the story and this is a great time to be a part of the story because networks especially are creating these amazing stories that incorporate people from all walks of life…That’s what art really is,” King said. “I love Viola for making that speech and having an open dialog about it.”
Is working in Shondaland as magical as imagine? Birds chirping and all? “I do skip down the halls to each set. I am very very happy to be there,” King joked. “With Shondaland – everyone that is hired – the cast, the crew, people in the office….there is just so much diversity and people are so happy. You are working with the most good natured people in the world.”
“HTGAWM” airs Thursday on our parent company, ABC.
