Many Americans think it’s time to change the way we deal with Cuba– 68% of them support ending the trade embargo with the island, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll. Will establishing diplomatic ties with the Cuban government help anyone? Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who was born in Cuba, doesn’t think so. “We’re going to maintain the hard line against the Castro regime,” she told Fusion’s Jorge Ramos in a recent interview. Ros-Lehtinen doesn’t think President Barack Obama is on the right track by trying something different to bring about change in Cuba. But, she does say she looks forward to the embargo being lifted once three conditions are met by the Cuban government: “Freedom for all political prisoners, free expression of ideas and freedom of the press, the right to unionize and free and fair multi-party elections.”
