What about the women who suffer from police brutality?

The circumstances surrounding the death of Michael Brown — the unarmed teenager who was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri — have ignited various debates about race, the use of force, and police brutality.

Of course we want justice for Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Sean Bell and Oscar Grant. But what about Yvette Smith, Eleanor Bumpurs, Aiyana Stanley-Jones, and Tarika Wilson?

That’s the question many women are asking online in articles like Josie Pickens’ “Can We Talk About How Black Women Are Treated As Threats Too?” published in The Root.

Alicia Menendez had the chance to discuss this with the writer of the piece and Texas Southern University professor Josie Pickens, The True Fight writer Josie Duffy, and Deadspin writer Greg Howard. Check it out.
