Captain Ron Johnson has had a soothing effect on Ferguson, Missouri.
After several days of violent clashes between police and protesters in the wake of the Aug. 9 shooting death of Michael Brown, Johnson has helped to defuse a tense situation and give a new shine to the badge.
Johnson, who grew up in the town next to Ferguson, has quickly earned the praise and respect of local residents and media alike for his calm demeanor and ability to easily engage with the public.
The veteran officer has spent the past day walking among the demonstrators, listening to their concerns and hugging bereaved victims of violence. His presence and leadership have restored a workable calm.
