How Breasts Became Boobs

Israeli students take fight against Hamas to social media

While Israel’s military operation to stop Hamas rocket attacks and destroy the militant organization’s network of tunnels drags on, the hashtag #GazaUnderAttack has consistently been trending on Twitter, often with messages that include graphic images depicting the growing toll of the conflict on Gaza’s civilian population. Israel also has its own supporters on social media, and one of the most dedicated is an Israeli student named Yarden Ben Yosef.

Under the hashtag #IsraelUnderFire, Yosef, a student union president, leads a group of about 500 hundred student volunteers at the private university IDC Herzliya who create graphics and posts in more than 30 languages. Their goal: to garner public support for Israel in the public relations war. We took a look inside to understand how they work, and why.
