The Colombian village of Tierra Bomba is losing four feet to the Caribbean sea every year, thanks in part to global warming. Several residents have been forced to leave their homes already as the sea erodes the ground beneath them.
Locals have asked officials to build barricades that would push back the sea. But they say that their requests have been repeatedly ignored by Colombia’s bureaucracy. In protest, the residents of Tierra Bomba have decided to boycott the past few elections. Almost no one plans to vote in the presidential election that will take place on Sunday.
