Cristela Alonzo: If You Don't Already Know Her Name, You Will Soon

Comedian Cristela Alonzo just got her big break: ABC picked up her family sitcom, “Cristela,” for its fall primetime lineup. Alonzo is the brains and heart behind the sitcom’s success, serving as the co-executive producer, co-creator, writer and star of the multi-cam comedy. (ABC is also a parent company for Fusion.)

You can watch the trailer on YouTube here.

You may not have heard of her yet, but you will. Alonzo was named in LA Weekly’s “Top 10 Comedy Acts to Watch,” Cosmo’s “13 Female Comedians to Watch in 2014” and “One of the 50 Comedians You Should and WILL Know” by New York Magazine’s Vulture.

Fusion’s Alicia Menendez sat down with Alonzo to talk about the long road to the small screen, her family’s doubts along the way, and why the “little show that could” finally made it through pilot season.
