Miami Gardens PD Responds to the criticism behind Stop & Frisk Policy

Miami Gardens Police Chief Stephen Johnson responded to the criticism of his department’s “Stop & Frisk” policy.

Chief Johnson went on local radio to defend his position. “This is just a small issue here dealing with this policy which no longer exists. We don’t have a quota policy at the police department that no longer exists I can’t speak to what existed to prior to my date but I will tell you. F.I. cards are an instrument they are a tool,” the chief said.

This small city in Miami-Dade county has stopped the equivalent of the majority of its population.

Rev. Al Sharpton criticized the departments efforts saying, “Miami Gardens and the Miami Gardens of the country don’t get the attention and is why they get away with it. They are able to operate under the veil of darkness where no one is seeing it. And that’s why it’s important we put a spotlight on it.”

Sharpton also went onto say, “The country would be outraged to know that seniors and children in Miami Gardens are suspects, that’s very insensitive and, again, lazy policing.”
