When his single mother lost her job, Andres Cardona decided he had to do something. With barely enough to eat at home, he considered his options. He could drop out of high school and get a job, or do something even more challenging – figure out a way to stay in school, but also start a business.
Basketball is Andres’ passion, and he had experience as the captain of his school’s varsity basketball team, so this Heat fan founded Elite Basketball Academy – an after school basketball program for kids.
“It was always my dream to be able to support my mom,” Andres, who is now 21 and attending Florida International University in the fall, said. “I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to be able to do that.”
