Sweat Records Unites the Miami Music Scene

Music has always been a part of Lauren Reskin’s life. Her dad is a Julliard-trained trumpet player, she was in a band for a while, and she worked in the music section of a retail store for many years. But it’s Sweat Records, the Miami music hub and record store she founded in 2005, that she considers her true calling. “I played guitar for a couple of years and I didn’t feel I was getting much better,” she said. “So I took the noble route and, instead of becoming another mediocre guitar player, I became an awesome music promoter.”

From bakers to brewers to bicycle-makers, Power Up features young entrepreneurs who, through their creativity and drive, have found success off the beaten path.
