David Remnick, the editor of New Yorker magazine, says there are many ways to make an impact and one of them is journalism.
“A lot of good has come through the world through that process whether it’s telling the story of people in poverty, identity, about what’s happening all around the world and what’s happening across the street, journalism for me is a kind of mission. And what I’ve devoted my professional life to with real joy.”
His advice for journalists?
“It’s very important to hear individual stories and not try and lump them all together, and try and assume that you know the story ahead of time. The art of being a good journalist is to not anticipate anything. Do all your homework, read up, to prepare…and then prepare to be completely surprised, because that’s what life does all the time.”
