Missayr Boker says her job as assistant political director at NARAL Pro-Choice America is the perfect intersection of her passions for politics and human rights. “I think [abortion access] is a human rights issue,” she says. “Not [being] in control of your own body and your own reproductive choices has a rippling effect on your status in society.” Boker, who came to the U.S. from Liberia when she was 5 years old, says the experiences of women in Liberia, where abortion is heavily restricted, helped her understand the importance of reproductive choice in ensuring that women are full and equal citizens.
