Latinos struggle to reconcile religion and immigration before South Carolina vote

Was Pope Francis tough enough on Mexicans?

With the second largest Catholic population in the world, Mexico is a crucial stop on any pope’s press tour. Today, 81% of Mexican adults identify as Catholic, while 90% say they were raised in the Catholic faith. So when Pope Francis arrived in Mexico last week, he was, of course, greeted with open arms, and reciprocated the warm reception with words of love and peace for the Mexican people. But accompanying those messages were warnings of continued corruption and drug trafficking plaguing the country and causing immense suffering to its people and the economy.

Fusion’s Jorge Ramos reflects on the Pope’s 5-day trip to Mexico—the ‘tough love’ he showed its people, as well as that which he chose not to address.
