Ashley Madison's founder on why pregnancy, cheating go hand-in-hand

In 2001, Noel Biderman founded a little site you may have heard of: AshleyMadison.com. If you haven’t heard of it (or are pretending you don’t know what it is), it’s a dating site for people who are already in relationships. The site’s slogan spells it out: “life is short – have an affair.”

Fusion Live recently spoke to Biderman about the site’s success, the backlash he has faced and his new book “First Bump” which is all about – what else – infidelity.

The so-called ‘King of Infidelity’ says the criticism started early on. “Everyone listed all the obstacles I was going to face, from potential family dynamics breaking down, friendships falling apart, legal constraints,” Biderman said. “At this point in time I’m one of the few entrepreneurs who can say the Queen of Spain has sued me, the government of South Korea has banned me, and my in-laws don’t even invite me over for dinner anymore.”

Biderman’s new book “First Bump” takes a look at the data of infidelity from the site and reveals some interesting findings on pregnancy. “Sex lives are turned upside down. They are turned upside down when their wives become pregnant or a first child is born and so they adjust really poorly to it.”

Another prime time for affairs? Most holidays. “The day after Valentine’s Day, a day that is really all about showing your affection for your partner, the day after New Years, the day after Mother’s Day – these are all days where you take a long look at your life. If it doesn’t feel right, you do something different…and one of those things turns out to be having an affair.”

“First Bump” is available now.
