What do you get when you put together a young robotics prodigy named Hiro – and his adorable, giant inflatable robot, Baymax? The ultimate animated, super hero comedy: “Big Hero 6.”
The film is produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and the same team that brought us “Frozen” – so you know it’s going to be a hit. Actress Genesis Rodriguez lends her voice to the film as ‘Honey Lemon’ a chemistry whiz, and turns out Genesis has some stuff in common with her character.
“I’m a huge nerd – I’m very proud of my nerdom,” Rodriguez said. “I guess the most nerdy thing about me is that I used to build robots in high school. I was a welder and I worked on the pneumatics of a robot, which gives it its commands.”
But Genesis’ true passion has been acting, and she dreams of someday being the latina Dustin Hoffman. “He can do a drama like he can a mystery, a comedy, he can do anything he wants and that’s what I’ve been trying to do…just keep it interesting.”
Genesis has already had a lifelong dream fulfilled when she was cast in “Big Hero 6.” I get so emotional every single time I talk about it,” Rodriguez said. “I’ve been a Disney princess my whole life. I’ve been combing my hair with a fork ever since I saw the Little Mermaid….it just really shaped my life. It gave me this beautiful side of what innocence and happiness and silliness and just the most beautiful emotions….I am so grateful that I got this opportunity because they have no idea how big of an impact they had on my life and that I could give that to a generation…I could tear up, I swear.”
Disney’s “Big Hero 6” hits theaters November 7th.
Disney is a parent company of Fusion.
