Fusion's Jorge Ramos on what he learned covering the 2016 race

Why are so many kids serving time in juvenile jail?

The United States locks up more kids than any other developed country, and on any given night, at least 54,000 children will sleep behind bars. Whether it’s for a few nights or a couple years, kids will often face a completely new set of challenges once inside a juvenile jail.

So what do these facilities look like, and what do kids experience once there? Fusion’s Mariana Atencio traveled to juvenile detention centers in Kansas and in Alabama for a closer look at what life is like behind bars for these youth.
