But regional variations on the sasquatch mythos exist — and in Florida, this massive crypto-creature is known as the skunk ape. The name, naturally, comes from its alleged terrible body odor. And there’s no one who knows skunk apes better than David Shealy, the founder of the Skunk Ape Research Center in Ochopee, Florida, deep in the heart of the Everglades. We went ‘squatch-hunting with Shealy to see if we could find some track and learn more about this lonely, roaming, oversized primate.
