Midterm Mayhem episode 2: Dave Weigel! Ebola! Nando firing guns at you!

'Screw you, I'm not a scientist' now the official GOP platform on climate change

After their crushing defeat in the 2012 presidential election, the GOP swore they would rebuild and rebrand. The Republicans would rise from the ashes as a modern, relevant political party. But you should know better than to trust a politician. In this midterm election, when asked about the real-world effects of climate change, Republicans assert that it’s not happening — but then again, they aren’t scientists! You can’t blame someone for being entirely ignorant about an environmental phenomenon if they admit they couldn’t pass an 8th-grade geoscience test! It’s not their job to research things and consult experts before making decisions. They’re passing laws, not the SATs.

We decided to ask some other non-scientists what they think about climate change. They were conflicted as well. If only there were some kind of expert who had made this field of study their life’s work. Or many, many experts, who could come to some sort of consensus. Alas, according to the Republican party, there is not. Guess we’ll never know!
