Meet 'the Rosa Parks of weed,' the first person to buy legal marijuana in Washington

While the Colorado Supreme Court is trying a case that will decide whether employers can fire workers for smoking pot, Fusion’s cannabis correspondent Ryan Nerz, traveled to Spokane to talk to a man who has been called “the Rosa Parks of weed.”

On July 8, 2014, Mike Boyer was first in line to buy legal weed in eastern Washington. He celebrated by smoking a bowl on local news, only to discover that his employer was watching the local news. He lost his job, then got it back after a publicity push against his employer, but still refuses to take drug tests…and thus is still unemployed. On the bright side, Boyer has become a local celebrity and is now fast friends with an enigmatic character known simply as “Number Three.”
