Oscar Nominee Talks About Directorial Debut

The nine nominees for “Best Picture” this year were notoriously long, and while their stories are compelling and their characters strong…it took director Jason Cohen less than 22 minutes to capture our hearts in his Academy-Award nominated documentary, “Facing Fear.” But the documentary isn’t just “based on a true story,” or “inspired by true events”–it IS a true story and the events that unfolded on camera ARE inspiring. Cohen didn’t create “characters,” he interviewed a reformed neo-Nazi skinhead and a victim of one of his violent outbreaks when they were both teenagers. 25 years later, the two meet by chance…and they realize they’ve met before. The result was the documentary short “Facing Fear.”
