What it takes to date a 'relationship virgin'

The Pew Research Center is the latest establishment to document this generation’s fear of commitment when it comes to marriage. According to their recent study, only 26 percent of millennials marry between the ages of 18 and 32. Compare that to Generation X, when 36 percent of 18-32 year-olds had tied the knot, and you start to see the contrast. But it’s not just marriage where you see our friends bucking the trend – as Cosmopolitan.com‘s Katie Heaney pointed out, we’re also seeing an increase in twentysomething “relationship virgins.

The label is just what it sounds like: young adults who find themselves in their late twenties without having a single long-term committed relationship on their track record. Fusion’s Alicia Menendez sat down with communications consultant Bettina Inclan, “Soccer Gods” host Nando Vila, and Fusion’s Kerisha Harris to talk about the trend.

Inclan says she has dated a ‘relationship virgin,’ and for her, it wasn’t fun.

“It was worse than house training a puppy,” she said. He “didn’t know what to do, didn’t know when to check-in… you need the patience of Job to walk through everything with them.”

Ok, fair enough, but it if isn’t fun to date a “relationship virgin,” maybe it’s better to be one. Vila disagrees. “I don’t think these people are rolling in sex,” he says. Eh, challenge accepted.
