In a recent interview with Mayor Bill de Blasio, Jorge Ramos asked wether Eric Garner, a black man who died after being being put in a chokehold hold by a New York City police officer, would be alive today had he been white.
“A lot of different pieces played into that incident, there is a full investigation going on,” de Blasio said. “We do know that a chokehold is not allowable by a New York City Police Department policy.”
De Blasio went on to say that the city plans to retrain its entire police force in how to deal with the community, and what types of actions officers are allowed to take.
“There is no question something is wrong and that we need to do better,” he said.
