Imagine, during the angst-filled teen years that are awkward and insecure for most, commanding crowds of thousands. Think of fans chanting your name, screaming, knocking over your equipment in an attempt to touch you, and, ultimately moving in tune with whatever you want them to do. Such is the life of Danny Avila, an EDM superstar on a meteoric rise who celebrated his 19th birthday this year.
Avila debuted at the Ultra Music Festival–that’s this country’s largest electronic music festival–at just age 18; he also became the youngest-ever resident at the legendary Ibiza club Pacha. He also enjoys a co-sign from Tiesto, who’s turned the youthfully handsome Barcelona native into his protege.
That all would make it easy to write off Avila as, perhaps, a lucky pinup type–but that’s not the case. He’s just precocious and dedicated, a DJ since age 12. And where so many festival headliners now rely on pre-recorded sets, Avila says he’s still dedicated to the art of DJing.
That’s a big reason why he’s up for the much-discussed annual “DJ Mag” Top 100 poll, for which voting is open until September 15. He stopped by the studio to chat with Fusion Live host Pedro Andrade about proving himself at every show, his fans, and, yes, the poll. Check out the video above, and visit djmag.com to vote.
