These female boxers are fighting pay disparities in the ring

While the Mayweather-Pacquiao “Fight of the Century” netted the boxers a $1 million-plus payout each, top amateur female fighters make less than minimum wage.

Without the same pay or endorsements as their male counterparts, some female boxers have had to rely on their looks to fund their dreams.

Mikaela Mayer, 24, is a top contender for the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team. She started off as a model and the face of Dr. Pepper, but boxing, she says, changed her life, giving her focus and purpose.

But Claressa Shields, who hasn’t had sponsors come knocking despite her Olympic gold medal, doesn’t like that female fighters should have to show skin to get paid.
