Baltimore descended into chaos Monday night, as people the city’s mayor referred to as “thugs” looted stores and clashed with police in the streets.
The tensions between citizens and police bubbled over two weeks after the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died from spinal injuries suffered while in police custody. The case remains under investigation.
Fusion’s Tim Pool was in Baltimore on Monday night and Tuesday morning, where he captured scenes of an armored police vehicle being bombarded with bottles and a row of riot cops moving in on scattered protesters.
“Police are firing,” Pool says in the video. (Baltimore police were reported using pellet guns and rubber bullets.) “They’re firing in this direction nonstop. Whatever they’re firing is bouncing off the ground, so we’re taking some cover.”
