On a recent rainy day in New York, it was only fitting that we talked to hip-hop hotshots Charles Hamilton and Rita Ora about Hamilton’s new single, “New York Raining,” on which Ora guest-stars. Yes, that’s the song they debuted on one of the best shows of our time, “Empire.”(You can watch the performance from the show here.)
“The beauty of New York when it’s raining is the beauty of the woman I’m talking about,” said Hamilton, waxing poetic about the song. Hamilton’s always been a bit of a romantic, dating back to his first hit, “Brooklyn Girls.”
That charisma is what drew Ora to Hamilton and the song. “He always has a message [and] he’s a really good storyteller,” she said. She also said she knew from the get got that “New York Raining” was going to make waves. “It felt like New York needed a new anthem, so I thought this was the perfect one.”
