Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential race in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday. He is the second Republican to officially enter the contest.
“We have come to take our country back,” he said to a cheering crowd.
Paul focused on economic prosperity, limited government and national security during his remarks.
The senator gave a special shout out to his parents, including his father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who has run for the presidency several times.
“Today, I announce with God’s help, with the help of liberty lovers everywhere, that I am putting myself forward as a candidate for president of the United States of America,” he said.
