This robot will not steal your job, but it might steal your heart.
Meet Robi, a companion robot designed by Japanese engineer Tomotaka Takahashi in 2012. Robi has voice recognition, and at a nifty 13 inches tall, he can move, speak, and understand five languages. Thanks to motion sensors, he can also detect movement and can act as a security guard.
But it doesn’t stop there. At The WorldPost Future of Work Conference in London in March, Takahashi told Fusion that he’s already working on Robi’s next generation, which will be available in a year. Robi 2.0 will be a pocket-sized, Internet-connected companion, similar to the smartphone depicted in the movie Her.
