Own goals are beautiful. Each one, a dazzling and unique snow flake dancing across our imaginations and laptop screens. Every time I see one, I know no matter how hard I try, nothing I do that day can have as much negative impact as what I just saw.
This own goal by Central Coast Mariners (Australia; just saved you from opening a Google tab) defender Josh Rose is particularly inspiring. Whether or not he knows it, Rose is telling us we shouldn’t be afraid to take risks or fail when we embark on bold endeavors. Why? Because as he’s shown here, even simple things in life, like an ordinary, slow-moving back pass to his goalkeeper who is 60 yards away from his nearest threat, can go absolutely wrong.
You are going to fail in life. Repeatedly. It’s part of the human condition, so why not fail loudly? Do something daring, and screw it up. It’s all going to go wrong anyway.
