“Good luck for the rest of your career and thank you for everything Sacha”
In many ways, Sacha Kljestan is a rare case. There aren’t many Americans — or anyone, for that matter — who can claim a résumé featuring 34 continental tournament appearances and three league titles while plying their trade in Europe. Never forget that European achievements count triple anything that happens in America.
Even rarer is an American player spending the better part of five years at a top-flight club overseas and becoming such an important part of the club that he is honored with a ceremony before a game. This was the case today at Anderlecht as Kljestan was given an ovation by home fans and presented with a gift from the club.
Kljestan’s time in Belgium is coming to an end, as he will be moving on to Red Bull New York for the start of the upcoming MLS season. He thanked fans for their appreciation and the family atmosphere at Anderlecht. You know your careeer has been worthwhile when you’re reached the level of getting a banner that celebrates your facial hair.
