Alex Song won’t feature in the bright, daring, bravado of the African Cup of Nations. Instead, he’s stuck toiling away in the anonymity of the Premier League.
According to the English press (so, ¯_(ツ)_/¯), Song was expecting to return to Cameroon for the first time in eight months. But when Cameroon released its roster, Song’s name wasn’t on it. (Here’s a place where you can read all the names that are on it, as opposed to not on it.) Coach Volker Finke only kept eight players from the 2014 World Cup roster, which exited meekly with exactly zero points from three group stage games.

But to find the last time he was shunned this badly, we have to track further back in history. Back to when he used to play for Barcelona, instead of being loaned out from Barcelona to places like West Ham.
Alex Song is the cousin of Rigobert Song. That’s not applicable here, but I think it’s important to mention whenever possible.
