Schalke responds to six-year-old report that Adolf Hitler was a big fan

In 2008, The Times of London published “The 50 worst famous football fans,” a list that derived its beauty from its very loose standard for being terrible. Unsurprisingly, some of the clubs mentioned weren’t too flattered by being associated modern history’s greatest villains. We all remember the jokes that came after it was revealed that Osama bin Laden loved Arsenal.

From a practical standpoint any list that puts bin Laden’s support on par with Sylvester Stallone or Scary Spice should probably be taken with a grain of salt; that is unless you’re German, and the guy The Times tied to your club was Adolf Hitler.

Such was the case for Schalke 04. It’s funny that a club would bother responding to the list; even funnier that it waited six years to do it. This positively ovation-worthy response came from Gerd Voss, the club’s Head of Media & PR:

As heavy-handed as it is late. As late as it is technical. As technical as it is unnecessary. Well done.
