Watching and Playing Soccer With the Tatuyo Tribe in the Amazon

Who says you need shoes or goals to play the beautiful game? Deep in the Amazon jungle, soccer is as much a part of daily life as it is anywhere else in Brazil. We visited the Tatuyo tribe, whose people play together every day — kids and grandpas included. Hundreds of years ago, “The Portuguese brought a bible and a ball,” says Tatuyo Chief Pinon. During the World Cup, the tribe not only partakes in the national pastime, they watch on tiny TVs powered by generators as well. They’re rooting for the South American teams.
