Happy Birthday Tetris!
If you haven’t heard already, today marks a 30 year milestone for one of the most iconic and beloved video games of all time.
Tetris was the brainchild of Alexey Pajitnov, a Russian video game designer and computer engineer, who developed the game in 1984 while working for a Soviet-founded research and development team.
He was cheated of over a decade of royalties for the game due to the Soviet laws and was only able to get control of the game in 1996.
Little did he know that his game would help set off the video game craze we see today.
You remember wasting hours at a time trying to get that perfect piece to fit in. Then only to accidentally flip it around, messing up your whole game.
And then you just felt like …
The CEO for Blue Planet Software, the sole agent for the Tetris brand came out to say:
“Our theme for the 30th Anniversary of Tetris is We All Fit Together. It speaks to how Tetris transcends cultures and language, and will continue to be fun for anyone, anywhere to play for generations to come,”
“We all have an inherent desire to create order out of chaos – whether in playing a game or packing the trunk of your car. No matter where the game is played or brand is celebrated, there will always be Tetris.”
After 30 years people have gotten really creative with what is such a simple game.
Tetris can be a fashion statement
It can really add property value.
It’s even been taken off the screen and made into a real word game.
Oooo, so close.
But most of all it’s a form of nostalgia taking us back to when we were younger and life was so much simpler.
Let’s wish this addicting game another 30 years — because you’ll probably still be playing Tetris at your cubicle!
