Mini-Doc Features Afghanistan Refugee Pursuing Martial Arts Dreams

Hussain Sadiqi fled central Afghanistan in 1999 to escape persecution from the Taliban. Today, he lives in Australia and is preparing to move to Hollywood to become the next Bruce Lee.

Sadiqi’s story, his experience leaving Afghanistan and training in martial arts, is documented in a mini-doc called “The Art of Fighting.” Produced by Alex Barnes and Silver Screen Pictures, the short has been screened at 14 film festivals around the world. Two days ago, the mini-doc was featured as a Vimeo “staff pick,” achieved over 30,000 views and was featured on Digg.

The short is beautifully shot and edited, combined staged shots and real-life moments to tell Sadiqi’s story. And it touches on really important issues of pursuing your dreams and the psychological impact of missing your family because of a human rights crisis.
