If technology is supposed to make us feel more connected, why does it feel more and more isolating?
Our 24/7 connection means there’s constant pressure to check in with everyone. And, thanks to social media, there’s also that pressure to show that you’re having the time of your life at the same time.
So, are we getting too connected?
A recent study shows that many people feel actual chemical feelings of love about their iPhones. Another study shows the average person checks their phone 110 times a day – with the heaviest users increasing that to almost once every six seconds in the evening.
It’s like a constant search for the next high. Unsurprisingly, there are now even rehabs devoted to technology addiction.
Maybe it’s time for some of us to go cold turkey.
But Psychologist Dr. Jonathan Fader believes a tech obsession is not a black and white issue. Instead, he said in an interview with DNA, the obsession only becomes a problem when it negatively affects an area of your life. And on the very end of the continuum is addiction.
