Miami Heat guard Ray Allen’s hard work on the basketball court is undeniable, but what he does in the community may be more important.
Through his charity Ray of Hope, Allen provided low-income families turkeys and other staples of a Thanksgiving meal earlier this week. He said he was happy to do this because he can relate to the people he was serving.
“I think about my childhood. I felt rich even though I wasn’t financially rich,” Allen said in an interview with Fusion. “I do know there were families that didn’t always have something to eat. We sometimes were that family.”
For the rest of the holiday season, Ray of Hope will also be donating Christmas gifts to children in need and continue renovating public school computer labs in South Florida.
Fusion’s Johanna Usma shows us how he is making a difference.
