It’s impossible to reflect on this past year without the lyrics to Lana del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” getting stuck in our heads–and that’s really thanks to DJ/producer Cedric Gervais. He brought the song into mainstream airwaves with his remix of it. At the same time, you can hear his rework of another Lana song, “Young & Beautiful,” in nearly every night club.

But before all the radio play and festival headlining, Cedric has come a long way. Born in France and raised in Miami, Gervais made success for himself at a young age, DJing clubs since he was a teen. (In fact he was the youngest resident DJ ever at Paris’s Le Queen nightclub).

He’s a proud Miami-based DJ, providing fans with his pulsating rhythms at nightlife staples like Space and the iconic LIV at the Fontainebleau. Equipped with a French accent, Cedric says in the beginning of his career it was hard for people to understand his English, but when it comes to his music, it appears there’s no translation needed.

His current smash single, featuring Howard Jones, is titled “Things Can Only Get Better,” and by the looks of it, the phrase applies to Cedric’s career, too. Check out our behind-the-scenes interview with him before a big night on the decks.
