You know him from The King’s Speech, Pirates of the Caribbean and Shine. Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush’s career has spanned 42 years. Now the Australian actor is giving new life to a New York Times best-seller, The Book Thief.
In the movie version of the top-selling tome, Rush’s co-star is 13-year-old Sophie Nelisse, who plays Liesel, a brave young girl living in Nazi Germany during World War II. Her foster parents are played by Rush and Emily Watson.
Liesel finds her release in books, which drives her to steal them. Amidst the wartime chaos, she also finds friendship with a Jewish man the family is hiding from the Nazis.
DNA spoke with both Rush and Nelisse to give us the rundown on the film. Here’s what they had to say.
