Your great-grandfather’s ‘Archie’ is now a skateboarding hipster

Archie Andrews, the titular teen hero of the Archie comics, has finally made his way into the 21st century. In the latest series of Archie comics, Archie’s still a teenager living in Riverdale, but he definitely looks more like a kid who grew up in a chic, hipster part of a modern city.

He still loves his dad. He’s still a klutz.

He’s something of an aspiring musician.

But some things are different. He’s coiffed, skinny jeaned, and hopelessly in love with Betty Cooper. The other kids at their school even call them a power-couple. The new series’ first issue starts out with a disturbance of the status quo–Archie and Betty have broken up and Archie has no idea why.

Will he and Betty get back together? Will Jughead ever cough up what happened between them? Will Riverdale High ever be the same? What the future holds for the new Archie remains to be seen. What we can see, though, is that the new Archie’s hotness is probably here to stay.
