The FIFA ruckus is tragically obscuring the day’s really big news: Steven Gerrard’s Los Angeles Galaxy debut.
The agonizingly tense wait is over and we now know that he’s expected to take to the StubHub Center field and immediately start scoring from 30 yards on July 11, when the Galaxy face Club America in the International Champions Cup.
Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said on the official club website that Gerrard will be in California for training before then: “We haven’t finalized a date yet. He will be here, he’ll get some training in and by the time that he’s eligible to play [July 8]; he’ll be ready to go.”
All being well, then, Gerrard’s MLS debut will come a week later at home to the San Jose Earthquakes.
That is, if he doesn’t get arrested in Dubai for having too much boisterous fun with his Liverpool (ex-) teammates. Pretty sure having a good time in a public place is illegal out there. But good to see he’s not suffering from any kind of hip injury.
