Milan fans spelled out “enough” with bodies in the stands

AC Milan is shit. AC Milan fans aren’t pleased that AC Milan is shit.

So what they did was, the ultras choreographed the word basta (“enough”) with their bodies in the stands on Wednesday for the game against Genoa.

Here’s a picture before the game of the chairs in the Curva Sud of the San Siro marked so the supporters knew where to clump:

And here’s what it looked like from the press box:

The banner underneath reads: “Put an end to this mess.”

Milan is 10th in Italy, closer to the bottom than the top. The coach, Filippo Inzaghi, will get fired soon enough, though the latest reports suggest he’ll limp through the next game at least. The fans are upset about more than just the coach, though. They know he’ll be gone soon. They’re more disgruntled about the direction of the club.

For years, former Italy Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has used Milan to gather political good will. When he’s in leadership, he lets the club wane. When he needs votes, Milan magically gets more financial backing and thrives. Now 78, Berlusconi is currently serving community service for tax fraud. His son has taken over as CEO of Mediaset, the largest broadcaster in Italy (Silvio is the controlling shareholder). Meanwhile, AC Milan has shriveled outside of his attention.

Milan finished eighth last season. The roster has survived mostly on free transfers. Fans have been upset for a while. Here’s a banner they used in March:

Berlusconi seems likely to sell the club to some rich dude named Bee Taechaubo soon.

Maybe that will be enough.
