This is Roberto López, the tattoo artist responsible for Lionel Messi’s new, colorful sleeve.
López is the one in the middle, just in case there’s any confusion. On the right is Messi’s partner Antonella Roccuzzo.
Messi and López seem to have a bit of a thing going. Messi trusts López to draw things permanently on his body. Messi, in return, presumably gives him money, more business, Messi paraphernalia and a tattoo.
That’s right, López let Messi give him a tattoo.
You can tell from Messi’s expression that his primary thought is, “What is wrong with this man? Is he really about to let me do this?”
López clearly agrees and is thinking, “What in the hell am I doing?”
But they both balked at the opportunity to act reasonably, stayed silent, and proceeded to continue making bad decisions together.
The result of what is presumably the Barcelona star’s first foray into tattooing isn’t as horrifying as you might imagine.
So there you have it. Messi now has two things to celebrate: 1) Scoring his 400th goal for Barcelona today, and 2) Taking the first step toward planning for his career as a tattoo artist after he retires.
Congrats, Leo. It’s always good to think about your future.
