That time a Dutch coach punched a hole in his own dugout

Imagine being a head coach of a team that is in the relegation zone. But you’re oh so close to getting out, and you’re playing the last place team in the league. This is your chance to make the jump, start a run to safety and stay in the top flight.

When you go ahead 2-1, everything is looking good. And then you concede. Oh, no. Oh god. The pain. What are you to do?

Punch something. Obviously you punch something.

Head coach Robert Maaskant of NAC Breda in the Dutch league decided to punch the dugout. Good choice. The dugout can’t punch back.

Maaskant is a man of wisdom and experience. There are so many ways this could have gone poorly, but Maaskant targeted the defenseless and that’s just brilliant.

Let’s check in on him afterward:

OK, so it hit back a little bit. Maybe Maaskant should go easy on the ice. NAC won’t be able to buy ice packs all willy nilly if it gets relegated.
