Over the weekend, Club Tijuana’s Juan Arango did his best Luis Suárez impression when he sunk his teeth into Monterrey’s Jesús Zavala. The referee didn’t catch the gnawing so Arango was able to finish the game. The Xolos still lost 4-3.
But justice has finally caught up with Arango for leaving these marks.
The Mexican FA has swooped in and has banned Arango for two matches. If you’re into comparing things, Suárez received a four-month ban from league play and a nine-game suspension from national team play for his infamous Giorgio Chiellini bite during the World Cup.
It seems people are starting to understand that biting is just another part of the game. Or something like that. Arango apologized to Zavala during the game and the pair swapped shirts after the final whistle. Maybe the Mexican FA took the act of reconciliation into account. Maybe we’ve finally turned the corner on biting.
